Uno dei modelli della serie ZX più rari e più soddisfacenti dal punto di vista estetico, oltre che ricco di contenuti tecnologici: dall’intersuola in etilene vinilacetato adilite (un particolare tipo di EVA sviluppato dal reparto ricerca e sviluppo adidas) con tecnologia adirail per la stabilità, al controtallone interno preformato, senza dimenticare l’allacciatura che univa i due sistemi più usati nel running dell’epoca, Vario e Ghilly.
Fu disegnato in Francia, come quasi tutte le sneakers della linea che – nelle intenzioni della casa del Trifoglio – avrebbe dovuto rispondere con precisione e puntualità alle specifiche necessità di chi corre. “Ogni runner è diverso” era l’idea alla base del progetto, che portò alla produzione di decine di modelli ancora oggi considerati l’apice della produzione adidas fra gli anni Ottanta e i Novanta. A differenza di molte altre sneakers della serie ZX (600 e 700 su tutte), la 550 non è stata oggetto di remake fino a questo momento.
One of the most rare and satisfying models in the ZX series from both an aesthetic and technological standpoint. From the vinyl acetylene intersole (a special type of Eva developed by adidas’s R & D department) with adirail technology to increase stability to the internal preformed counter-heel, not to mention the lacing system merging together the two methods most used in those days running, that is Vario and Ghilly.
It was designed in France, like every model in this series which – according to the trefoil’s intention – was meant to respond in the most rigorous and punctual of manners to the special needs of runners. “Every runner is different” was the core tenet of a project that led to the issuing of dozens models that are still regarded as the climax of adidas production from the Eighties to the Nineties. Unlike many other sneakers from the ZX series (600 and 700 above all) the 550 wasn’t subject to any remake until now.
